Underwriters Laboratories® (UL), leader in third party product certification, testing and safety standards, has developed two tailored packages to simplify export of lighting products around the world.
Through UL’s intense development of its Global Market Access solutions UL intends to further become the certification partner of choice, opening doors to the global market.
The UL mission is one of Public Safety. Supporting European manufacturers in exporting safe products not only to North America but globally, by providing commercial opportunities through unique certification packages is only one element.
The two packages – first introduced at Light+Building in April, and valid until December 2008 in Europe and Latin America – have been developed to address the various export needs of different marketplaces, offering significant advantages for those who invest. For example:
§ Worldwide Access of European lighting products facilitated through relevant regional marks as part of the package.
§ Reduction of time-to-market through product compliance in advance. A drop in the delivery time of your projects through a reduced number of tests for different safety marks.
§ Opportunity to optimize the management of manufacturing location inspections through UL: Your unique certification partner.
§ Increased product value from the addition of prestigious safety marks whether mandatory or voluntary.
§ Improved levels of business development opportunity within new markets as a result of the additional certifications at no extra cost.
Market Access Package for North America and Mexico.
Manufacturers applying for a new cULus certification will receive the NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexicanas) Mark for Access to Mexico free of charge. NOM certification is compulsory for over 2,000 product categories, from Lighting and related components to IT and Telecommunication devices, destined for the Mexican Market. Recently UL has been accredited by the Mexican Governmental Authorities as the first third party provider of NOM Mark.
Market Access Package for Europe.
Manufacturers applying for a IECEE CB Scheme Certification will receive where relevant two voluntary safety marks, namely the ENEC and the D Mark for free. The CB Scheme is based on the use of CB Test certificates acting as an international passport and proof that representative samples of the product have passed tests to show compliance with the requirements of the relevant IEC Standard. Thus simplifying and speeding up global access of products, the CB Scheme is recognized and accepted by over 50 countries around the world. The number of member countries keeps growing - extending the boundaries of export further and further. UL, is one of the few certification bodies boasting several Laboratories with NCB (National Certification Body) status, in addition to a CBTL (Certification Body Testing Laboratory), accredited and recognised to release CB reports and certificates.
The ENEC mark is one of the most recognised/ trusted safety marks in the lighting industry within Europe.
