Code Authorities – Environmental and public health FAQ

Answers to questions regarding UL certification of products to NSF Standards, regulatory acceptance of the UL marks, and other certification-related information.

 

  • Can UL certify products to NSF standards?

    YES. UL is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to certify products to the NSF standards for food equipment, drinking water products, and swimming pool products. A complete listing of our ANSI accreditation can be found on the ANSI website.

     

  • Do code authorities and regulatory authorities accept UL certifications?

    YES. The UL EPH Mark for food equipment and the UL Water Quality Mark for drinking water products are accepted nationwide, and in every province in Canada.

     

  • Who can I contact with questions about UL EPH certifications?

  • Where can I locate UL EPH Listings?

  • How do I determine the standards used by UL to certify products?

    The applicable standard(s) for any certified product can be determined by viewing the Guide Information provided for each category of products. This information can be obtained by using the Online Certifications Directory.

     

  • Is UL involved in environmental sustainability activities?

    Through UL's Environmental Claims Validation (ECV) service, manufacturers submit products to UL Environment for testing to validate environmental claims made on product packaging and in their marketing efforts. UL's Sustainable Product Certification (SPC) program certifies that the products, as well as the processes and materials used to create them, are in compliance with industry standards. Learn More.
