Career opportunities

Global opportunities

UL typically resources its operations with local nationals. In some cases, temporary assignments of out-of-country UL employees may be made to address a core-skill deficit, provide for knowledge transfer and training, or occasionally as a developmental opportunity for selected employees.

We offer different types of assignments depending on the assignment duration, and requirements. Generally assignments are created to transfer knowledge and skills, or to fill positions temporarily due to a lack of local staff and available expertise.

Total reward philosophy

We offer a competitive total rewards package to our employees around the world. Externally focused, industry- and geography-appropriate market rates are the basis for any compensation and benefits comparison.

UL offers a competitive benefits package so our employees can protect the health and wellbeing of themselves and their family. Benefits vary by location based on local practice, but commonly include medical, life, disability and retirement.

Engineering

Our engineers are the core of our organization. UL engineers are among the world's most respected experts in the fields of safety science and hazard-based safety engineering (from fire safety to electro-technology), standards development and emerging technologies (nanotechnology, photovoltaic and renewable energy). As a UL engineer, you have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a broad array of challenging projects working side by side with leaders in the engineering field
  • Investigate first-generation products
  • Have a direct impact on product safety

Laboratory operations

Laboratory operations work closely with UL's engineering teams to perform all required laboratory tests necessary to deliver the fastest, most customer-friendly service possible. UL laboratories uphold the most stringent quality control measures and are renowned for their innovative equipment design. Each laboratory group is responsible for conducting thousands of hours of investigative work annually.

Field services

UL's field services teams travel throughout their region providing the onsite, follow-up inspections that help distinguish UL from the rest of the safety-compliance services industry. The type of inspections performed by our field services team are broad and vary in scope from product safety inspections to audits of building systems, fire apparatus and commercial inspections. Our teams serve as our daily front-line safety ambassadors, working together with UL customers to ensure that the UL Mark is being used and applied in accordance with UL's requirements.

Research and development

One major aspect of UL's mission is the advancement of safety science and engineering. The experts in R&D are engaged in global research investigations to evaluate leading-edge technologies that impact UL's mission and business. Our scientists and engineers conduct short- and long-term investigations in key areas, such as alternative energy (biofuels, batteries, photovoltaic, micro fuel cells, and so on), electrical distribution systems (arcing, electrophathology, infrastructure reliability), nanotechnology, materials characterization, aging, reliability and predictions of lifetime.

Commercial

Our commercial organization is comprised of business professionals from a broad array of disciplines including management, sales, marketing, market research and pricing. Our primary goal is to help our customers improve their performance and remain competitive by achieving market access. To do this, we strive to better understand our customers' requirements and make sure UL offers the services to meet their changing needs. When working with customers, we leverage our market knowledge and help our customers access UL's extensive technical skill base to deliver the best service.

Customer service

Our customer service group is a global team of professionals dedicated to providing excellent service to UL customers. Our experts are available to support customers during the entire UL experience, including project submittals, account maintenance, and complaint resolution.

We also look for exceptional professionals in the areas of finance, human resources, information technology, legal, training and quality.
