The role of the Security Council

The Security Council (formerly the Burglary Systems Council) was formed in 1923. Members of the Security Council are drawn from inland marine and property insurance industries, law enforcement, consulting, corporate security, government and academia. The purpose of the Security Council is to provide a forum in which UL can seek expert advice and guidance in the development and maintenance of standards for safety, installation and use of UL certified products, investigations of new and innovative products, and the development of new business opportunities. In many ways, the Security Council acts as UL's technical board of advisors and helps to shape the direction of UL's Security business. The members of Security Council bring years of sound engineering experience, practical judgment, field experience and conformity assessment business expertise to UL.

The scope of topics of current interest to the Security Council include data/network security, electronic security systems, risk management, physical security products, national industrial security, burglar/fire alarm certificate services, government service, software certification, and mass notification systems.
